This story is about dream-givers that go into your house in the middle of the night where an old woman and a dog named Toby are sleeping. Littlest was very small and very energetic and also very curious. Fastidious was tired and very impatient. Later on Littlest become paired up with someone new his name was Thin Elderly, who is more patient than Fastidious. They are cool and are very like people who give dreams to humans and animals. What they do is that they collect memories, and give them back in happy dreams that make you feel better and help the people they're assigned to. The dream-givers' enemies are the strong and evil Sinisteeds, who give you nightmares and sometimes travel in frightening Hordes. And the humans that Littlest and Thin Elderly care for do need help and protection from bad dreams. The old woman is lonely and adopted in a foster child named John, who's living away from an abusive father and the sensitive mother who really wants him back.
